As the tense political stalemate in Honduras continues, there are troubling signs that the current crisis has given rise to anti-Semitism.
The stalemate has led to charges from political leaders, media pundits and other key figures in the country that Israel and Jews were behind the ouster and intimidation of President Manuel Zelaya and that they are in cahoots with the de facto president, Robert Micheletti.

These charges have emerged despite the fact that Honduras has a tiny Jewish community, does not even have a permanent rabbi and does not have an Israeli embassy.
Rafael Alegria complained that Honduras "has a immigrant community that owns everything: commerce and industry."
"We don't really have our own economy," Alegria said. "We have to set that right."
The capital is now covered with graffiti demanding "Turks out aka Jews" apparently a reference to the Central American country's large number of business people aka JEWS of Middle Eastern descent and on Saturday pro-Zelaya marchers lashed out at the elite's dominance over wealth in a country where millions are poor.
